Hospitalization

Prior to hospitalisation, the clinical status of a patient suffering from drug addiction is evaluated through an outpatient interview, during which the person’s psycho-physical conditions are examined by a psychiatrist and a medical specialist.
Once admitted to the clinic, patients are accommodated in single bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom, balcony, television and telephone.
Based on the patient’s clinical status, personal caregivers can be assigned to assist the patient around the clock. If required, pharmacological therapy is prescribed and constantly monitored by psychiatrists to ensure maximum effectiveness.
During the first phase of hospitalisation, which is mostly focused on detoxification, we constantly monitor cardiac, respiratory and hepatic functions, with the aid of blood chemistry and instrumental examinations. If necessary, cranial CT and/or head MRI scans are performed to check for brain damage.
Once the patient has completed the detoxification process, we begin a psycho-diagnostic plan, directed at investigating and pinpointing the reasons for hospitalisation, as well as the patient’s difficulties, in order to guide our support and personalised therapeutic plan. The patient’s history is accurately documented and the appropriate psychodiagnostic tests are carried out (SCID-1, SCIO-IL, MMPI, YSQ, Rorschach test, SWAP 200 are the most frequently used). We also hold daily cognitive and psycho-dynamic sessions to increase the patient’s awareness of his/her problems in order to aquire the necessary level of self-motivation to follow the cure.
With the patient’s consent, we meet family members and the most relevant people in their lives in order to help them understand the patient’s suffering and problems, and providing guidance as to how they can offer the patient as much support as possible on his/her path to recovery.
For the duration of their stay, patients participate in group activities geared to develop greater ability in recognising their problems; they are also assisted in dedicating their spare time to positive activities such as sports and creative (atelier) recreational programmes. We also schedule rehabilitative and sports activities outside the centre, where patients are accompanied and supervised by qualified members of staff.
Once the hospitalisation period is complete, the team explains the results of all clinical tests carried out, and gives the patient practical indications as to how they can continue the treatment started at our medical centre.
