THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT FOR SOMATOFORM DISORDERS

Somatoform Disorders are generally treated with antidepressants, but in some cases, low doses of typical and atypical antipsychotic medication may be required. During the acute phase, hospitalisation could be necessary in order to formulate an appropriate pharmacological therapy plan with daily monitoring of the patient’s clinical status, while also safeguarding patients from possible behavioural anomalies, which could be harmful to themselves and others.

The pharmachological treatment plan should be supported by psychotherapy.
